Cabinetry 101Our goal is to provide you with the information you need in order to
make an informed decision when purchasing cabinetry. The following is
an explanation of terminology commonly used in the kitchen cabinetry business
with which you should be familiar. |
Shop Built Grade CabinetsAlthough tagged as "custom" most "shop built" cabinets do not measure up to the latest in finishes and accessories, lacking the capital investment in state-of-the-art machinery. Structural integrity meets minimum standards. This level of cabinetry is generally appealing to builders because of it's low cost and the ability to create an "Illusion of Quality". "Shop built" cabinetry is not recommended by Kitchen Creations and should be considered only for lanai, laundry or garage applications. |
Production Grade CabinetsThis level of cabinetry invests most of it's manufacturing dollars in a good semi-durable finish. "Production" cabinetry suffers due to a limited number of styles, finishes and accessories with NO customization. It is generally considered a good choice for investment properties and starter homes. "Production" cabinetry is available at lumber yards and home centers. The price averages $350 - $500 per cabinet. |
Semi-Custom Grade CabinetsSimilar to production grade in quality, "semi-custom" cabinetry offers a wider selection of styles, finishes, accessories and finishes. Typical delivery time is 3-5 weeks and the price averages $400 to $700 per cabinet. |
Popular Grade CabinetsMost of the increased manufacturing costs are put into the cabinet's exterior good looks. This grade of quality has a broader range of wood species, styles, stains, paint colors and finishes than "semi-custom". Dovetailed drawer construction with full extension under-mount glides are standard. "Popular" grade cabinets are priced at $600 to $1000 per cabinet. You can expect the beauty to last 20 years or more and add the most resale value of your home for money invested. |
Furniture Grade CabinetsThis grade of cabinetry is perfect for built-in furniture applications in other rooms. "Furniture" grade cabinets are priced approximately $900.00 to $1400.00 per unit. |
Luxury Grade Cabinets"Luxury" grade cabinetry constitutes "leading edge" manufacturers mostly from Europe. It features bold new styles and "fashion statements" at $1300.00 to $2600.00 per cabinet. They are truly a luxury item. |
